Imagine that you and your family are on vacation. It is early spring and you have rented a cabin way out in the woods, where it is quiet and peaceful. Hopefully you can spend some much needed quality time with your family away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

When you get to the cabin it is late. Your kids want to check things out, but you are tired from the drive and the privious weeks work. All you want to do is go to bed and rest. We’ll check things out tommorow you tell them.

As you wake up the first morning you can smell the freshly brewed coffee. You hear the water running in the bathroom where your spouse is taking a shower. Your children are already playing in the yard. You realize that you are truely blessed with a wonderful family.

You realize you haven’t walked in the woods since you were a child. Excited you Grab a cup of coffee to go and head out. You can’t wait to get into the great outdoors.

The birds are singing. You hear the soft gurgling sounds of the river caring the freshly melted snow into the lakes below. The warm breeze feels good on your skin. The clean air that feels your lungs is a refreshing change from the smoggy poluted gas, you’ve become accustom to breathing in the city.

About twenty minutes into your walk you round a corner below a steep cliff and look up wondering how high it really is. It is still covered with snow, but you think hey “I only get to live once. I’m gonna see how high I can climb.”

Joyfully you start to climb. After only about five minutes you are starting to get tired but you press on. A few minutes later you decide to sit down and rest. Your high enough that you can now see the little cabin you rented off in the distance. It is so pretty here.

All at once you hear a crash. Startled you look up just in time to see the avalanche coming straight for you. You start to run but you know there is no out running this. But, you’ve got to try right. Seconds later you feel the avalanch hit you taking you off your feet.

The avalanch takes you to the bottom of the cliff where first started the climb and for a split second you think you may get out of this alive. But, no such luck the snow begins to spill over you burying you deep below the surface.

Laying in the cold ice you realize this will soon become your temporary grave. You start to think. You remember that when you left the cabin this morning you never even told anyone you were leaving. You never kissed your spouse, or you kids.

You wonder how you will be remembered. Did your family know how much you loved them? Will you be remembered as a happy individual who was a loving and caring? Or, will they remember you as a grouchy jerk who was always tired and cranky?

The ending of this story is intense. I’ve made it that way on purpose in order to make a point. The point being we must live everyday to its fullest. We must live our lives on purpose, instead of letting our lives control us.

Let everybody know who you really are. Let them see the person you are as you want to be remembered. Don’t make the mistake of putting things off until tomorrow. It is easy to get wrapped up in the pressures of everyday life. Yet, we are not promised tomorrow. We must make the most out of today.
